STP 2027 Task Force Volunteer

Society for the Teaching of Psychology
Volunteer
Application Deadline: Jan 15, 2027
Society for the Teaching of Psychology

I am planning to form two Presidential Task Forces during 2027.  I hope you will consider volunteering, as this type of service is a nice opportunity to make a difference for your colleagues in the teaching of psychology. One of my Task Forces will be a single group, while the other one will contain several teams.

Volunteers should expect to meet virtually with their groups about once a month during the calendar year, with additional time needed outside scheduled meetings. Each Task Force will provide a year-end report to summarize its work, to be shared with the STP Executive Committee.

Ideally, these task forces will present their work at conferences. It is also possible that a white paper, published article, or e-book could materialize. In addition, these task forces provide a great opportunity to meet other teachers with similar interests.

To be on a task force, one must be an STP member. Prior STP service is not a requirement to serve on a Presidential Task Force. If you are interested in being a part of one of these groups, please visit this link.

The deadline for applications forces is January 15, 2027.

1. Mentoring the Mentors

The goal of this Task Force will be to develop and make available at least one resource and/or program to help STP members become more effective mentors of their colleagues. I am looking for a mixture of Task Force members, some who have substantial service and mentoring experience with STP, some who are interested in becoming more effective mentors themselves, and some who are relatively new to STP and/or to becoming involved in professional service.

2. Using Psychology to Teach Psychology

The goal of this task force will be to develop resources and guidance to help teachers of psychology apply what we know from areas of psychology that have thus far not been widely applied to teaching. I intend to form multiple teams under the umbrella of this Task Force, with each team focusing on a particular subfield in Psychology, focusing on subfields that have been under-utilized in improving teaching and learning. I am looking for members who have expertise in a subfield of psychology that they think is not yet being widely applied to improve teaching and learning. I am also looking for members who have an interest in learning concepts from subfields outside their main areas and identifying methods of applying those concepts to teaching.

If you have any questions, please contact your 2027 President, Dave Kreiner, at [email protected].
