Call for Committee Members, STP Early Career Psychology Committee

STP is now accepting applications for one new member of the STP Early Career Psychology (ECP) Committee. Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systemic Racism and Inequity in STP, we encourage applications from colleagues who are from underrepresented groups and have diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Applicants must be members of STP and qualify as “early career.” Early career is defined as anyone within ten years of beginning teaching psychology while not a student. This includes both secondary educators and those teaching at the college/university level.

The ECP Committee is composed of five members who are engaged in establishing their professional careers. The Committee is charged with spearheading activities and opportunities to aid ECPs through education, training, and networking, and representing ECP interests in division matters.

Nominations should include a CV and responses to the following application questions, submitted via Google Forms. 

• Describe any experience you have had with STP so far. Tell us if you’ve attended any STP related events, workshops or used/contributed to any STP resources. (200 words max)
• What is one need that you think early career psychology educators need today? Why did you choose that need to discuss? (100 words max)
• The ECP Committee hosts in person and virtual events, social hour(s) during ACT, and other events. Do you have experience organizing and facilitating events like this? (100 words max)
• Tell us something about yourself. For example, tell us about one of these, or something else: What course/topic are you passionate about? What is your favorite teaching activity? How do you create a sense of belonging or community among your students and colleagues? What is a piece of advice you’d give to another ECP member? (100 words max)

Minimum qualifications for ECP Committee members:

• A current member of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology
• Within ten years of beginning teaching psychology while not a student (at either the secondary or college/university level)
• Able to commit to a three-year term from January 2027-December 2029
• Able to attend virtual meetings of the committee
• Willingness to respond quickly and consistently to email communication

Desired Qualifications for new ECP Committee members:

Interest and/or experience in any of the following:

• Able to attend the Annual Conference on Teaching each October in-person (highly preferred)
• Increasing engagement with members via social media (e.g., Facebook and Twitter/X)
• Developing and presenting professional development sessions at conferences
• Creating professional development resources for ECPs
• Organizing and hosting social hours or mentoring events at various conferences
