2027-2029 Associate Editor of Teaching of Psychology

The Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) is taking applications for TWO Associate Editors (AE) to serve on the Editorial Board of Teaching of Psychology (ToP). This AE will manage the review and decision-making of ToP manuscripts. Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systemic Racism and Inequity in STP, we encourage applications from colleagues from underrepresented groups with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Below is a description of the duties and qualifications, terms of service, and application process. 

Duties and Qualifications:

1. The AE will work alongside the Editor and the other AEs. Manuscripts will be divided among the Editor, the other AEs, and the Obituary Editor. As such, AEs will serve as action editors for submitted manuscripts. This includes assigning reviewers, collating reviews, assessing the quality of reviews, making decisions on manuscripts, writing a decision letter, communicating those decisions to authors, and following the manuscript through the process to publication or its final outcome. 
2. No single AE is responsible for specific submission types (e.g., Science of Teaching and Learning Corner, Replication Corner, Proof-of-Concept Corner, or the Scholarly Teacher Corner).
3. You will work side by side with the other AEs and the of Editor to ensure high-quality articles for publication in ToP. 
4. Work with the Editorial team at SAGE, including using the ScholarOne online submission portal. You will need to learn how to use the online portal for manuscript management.
5. Potentially act as editor on submitted manuscripts on which the editor has a conflict of interest. This will be determined by the VP of Resources and the Director of Publications and confirmed by STP’s Executive Committee. 
6. Provide counsel to the Editor on submissions that they want input on over and above that provided by the reviewers.
7. Consult with the Editor regarding journal policies and guidelines.
8. Serve as editor in the event that the editor becomes incapacitated or meets with an untimely demise; in such circumstances, STP’s Leadership Team will act as quickly as possible to find a new editor. In this event, the VP of Resources and the Director of Publications, as confirmed by the EC, will determine which AE will become acting Editor of ToP.
9. You must be an active STP Member.

Stipend: $1300 per year.

Term of Service: 3 years, starting January 1, 2027, and ending December 31^st, 2029. AEs may serve up to two consecutive terms.
