Assistant Professor of Psychology (Open Area)

The Department of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at Randolph College invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2027. We seek dynamic educators with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, and pedagogical innovation. The ideal candidates will demonstrate broad intellectual engagement and exceptional curricular flexibility, bringing enthusiasm and capability to teach a diverse range of foundational introductory courses as well as specialized, upper-level seminars within our curriculum.

We offer a major and minor in both psychology and cognitive science with a long tradition of research-based psychological inquiry emphasizing research design, interpretation of data, and practical application. 

Primary Responsibilities

Typical teaching load is 3 courses per semester in our innovative Take2 curricular model where courses are offered in two 7-week sessions each semester. 

The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses that maintain and enhance the psychology curriculum. Courses in the regular teaching rotation may include introduction to psychology, statistics or research methods, and additional courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.

Primary responsibilities focus on excellence in undergraduate instruction, curricular flexibility, and campus service. Research within our department is primarily valued for its educational impact. We enthusiastically welcome candidates whose scholarly interests create meaningful opportunities to mentor and collaborate with undergraduate student researchers.

Required qualifications for tenure-track assistant professor

• A Ph.D. or Psy.D in psychology completed by August 2027 and teaching experience at the undergraduate level is required
• Evidence of or potential for excellence in undergraduate instruction.
• Demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methodologies.

Preferred qualifications

• Preference may be given to candidates who are qualified and prepared to teach undergraduate courses in clinical and/or community psychology.
