Multiple Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions

Full-time
Application Deadline: Oct 1, 2026
Faculty, Public 4-yr Institutions

Join us at The University of Southern Mississippi

The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is excited to announce multiple full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions available beginning August 2027. We look forward to finding new colleagues who value collaboration, a healthy work-life balance and will contribute to our collaborative, supportive academic environment. Meet some of our faculty and our charming city of Hattiesburg in this short video: USM School of Psychology - A Great Place to Work

Incoming faculty will contribute to both teaching and student mentorship across undergraduate and graduate degree programs, allowing ample opportunities to shape the growth and professional trajectory of undergraduate students, including many first-generation college students and students from underserved communities eager to learn from supportive and intentional instructors and mentors. Applied faculty also will have both teaching and clinical supervision opportunities to share their clinical expertise and contribute to the high-quality training our graduate students receive as part of our thriving APA-accredited doctoral programs. There is a streamlined path to professional licensure within the state of Mississippi, including the adoption of the universal licensure application system, PSYPACT legislation, and the absence of postdoctoral supervision requirements.

The School of Psychology seeks applicants who will enhance current departmental strengths (e.g., vocational psychology, memory and cognition, and clinical intervention and implementation science) or expand departmental offerings and bring unique collaboration opportunities for colleagues and specialized mentorship for students. Potential areas of expertise that complement existing work in our School include trauma and trauma-informed care, life-span development, and rural populations, while we hope to build new areas of scholarship in health psychology as well as technology innovation and its impact on mental health and human behavior.

We are excited to hear the ways in which you would like to uplift colleagues and students at Southern Miss!

Here are the special instructions to applicants:

Review of applications will begin October 1, but we will gladly review applications received after this date until the position is filled. For more information, visit https://jobs.usm.edu or contact the search chair to inquire about each position.
