6 Assistant Professor Positions (Clinical, Counseling, & Teaching Track)

Application Deadline: N/A
The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for four full-time, tenure-track positions and two additional full-time, permanent, teaching-track positions beginning August 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic scientist-practitioner training programs in the School of Psychology.

Position openings include:
  • Counseling Psychology – 2 tenure track positions; 1 designated as Assistant/Associate Professor
  • Clinical Psychology – 2 tenure track positions at Assistant Professor level
  • Teaching Track – 2 full time, permanent positions at Assistant Teaching Professor level
We have thriving programs including three APA-accredited doctoral training programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School), an Experimental Psychology PhD program, an MPCAC accredited MS program and a large, undergraduate psychology major. The programs emphasize research mentorship, diversity, and training in evidence-based practices. Research and applied interests are open. Our faculty have established records of scholarship in a wide variety of areas across various disciplines. Doctoral students provide psychological services through the Center for Behavioral Health (CBH), which is an integrated in-house training clinic staffed by students and faculty from the School, Counseling, and Clinical Psychology training programs. The CBH serves a diverse clientele from the community including assessment and treatment and allows for close supervision of student clinicians by psychology faculty.
We hope to recruit tenure track applicants interested in supporting our large and diverse undergraduate major, mentoring graduate student research and providing clinical supervision of practicum students in our in-house training clinic.
Teaching track applicants focus on teaching across our two-campus system and provide support to the graduate programs, where applicable. For one teaching track position we are interested in applicants with a neuroscience background to teach our undergraduate and graduate courses in behavioral neuroscience. However, the area of expertise is open. The second teaching track position is geared towards serving the needs of the applied programs (Counseling, Clinical and School) both at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Opportunities to obtain post-doctoral supervision during the licensure process (including mentorship, professional development) and/or collaboration on research are available. More information can be found at www.usm.edu/psychology
