The Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) is seeking a member to serve as News Editor. Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systematic Racism and Inequity in STP, STP encourages applications from colleagues who are from underrepresented groups and have diverse backgrounds and experiences.

TIMELINE: The News Editor will serve a 3-year term (January 2026 through December 2028) with an opportunity to renew for a second term upon approval of the STP Executive Committee. The new News Editor will have the opportunity to consult the current News Editor (Tom Pusateri) prior to assuming responsiblities of the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the STP Secretary, the News Editor is responsible for preparing STP's newsletter and developing a photographic record of sessions at STP's Annual Conference on Teaching (ACT). The News Editor will receive reasonable travel support to attend ACT. Additional details about the position are available in the STP Policies and Procedures Manual (available at this link).

Job Description:

  • The News Editor will solicit and locate newsworthy items by:
    • Requesting news items from STP leaders via the DIV2LEADERSHIP Listserv.
    • Subscribing to the APA Listservs and announcement lists (e.g., CABEDUCATORS, SCIENCECHANNEL) to locate newsworthy items relevant to the teaching of psychology.
    • Seeking news items relevant to teachers of psycyhology from organizations associated with the mission of STP (e.g., Psi Alpha, Psi Beta, Psi Chi, APS, NITOP).
  • The News Editor will edit and publish the STP newsletter by:
    • Preparing a draft newsletter on a regular time frame (currently monthly) for review and revision by the STP Secretary.
    • Publishing the newsletter on the STP website and announcing publication in the DIV2NEWS and DIV2LEADERSHIP Listservs.
    • Archiving each newsletter issue on STP's Dropbox account.
  • The News Editor will share timely news items to DIV2PSYCHTEACHER and sharing those items with the Chair of the Membership Communication Committee for posting on social media.
