Applications are currently being accepted for the next Chair of the Lecture Selection Committee of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP). Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systemic Racism and Inequity in STP, we encourage applications from colleagues who are from underrepresented groups and have diverse backgrounds and experiences.
TIMELINE: The new Director will spend approximately 2 months shadowing the current Chair of the Lecture Selection Committee (Brooke Whisenhunt), and will then start a three-year term as the Chair. The shadowing period runs from October-December 2025, and then the new Chair will serve from January 2026 through December 2028. This position is eligible for reappointment upon approval of the Executive Committee for an additional three-year term.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Chair is responsible for coordinating the Committee's efforts toward recruiting up to two prominent teacher-scholars (Distinguished Scholar Lectures for Teaching and Harry Kirke Wolfe Lecture) to give formal talks during the annual APA Convention (each talk is repeated at a regional psychology conference in the subsequent year). The Chair solicits presenters and obtains necessary materials from them. Additional details about the position are available in the STP P&P Manual (available at this link).
