Society for the Teaching of Psychology

Applications are currently being accepted for the next Director of STP Programming at the APA Convention. Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systemic Racism and Inequity in STP, we encourage applications from colleagues who are from underrepresented groups and have diverse backgrounds and experiences.

TIMELINE: The new Director will spend approximately 8 months shadowing the current Director of STP Programming at APA (Melissa Maffeo), and will then start a three-year term as the Director. The shadowing period runs from May-December 2025, and then the new Director of STP Programming at APA will serve from January 2026 through December 2028. This position is eligible for reappointment upon approval of the Executive Committee for an additional three-year term.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of STP Programming at APA is responsible for organizing the Division 2 programming for the annual APA convention. The program includes submitted and invited symposia, critical conversations, and poster presentations. In addition, individual speakers may be invited to present. The Director also organizes the Presidential Address.

SUPPORT: The Director of STP Programming at APA receives reasonable travel reimbursement to attend the convention each year, including travel, lodging, and travel-related expenses. In addition, the Director receives a one-half stipend as described in the STP P&P Manual (available at this link), currently set at $2,000, within the first year of a three-year term. This funding is meant to provide extra time for the Director to learn how to accomplish duties in a new position.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Those interested in serving as the next Director of STP Programming at APA should submit:

  • a letter of interest that specifically addresses: your interest in the position, evidence of your commitment to the teaching of psychology, including engagement with STP, relevant experiences or aptitudes (which could include managing complex projects or previous programming experiences)

  • a current CV

  • a list of three references who could be contacted to provide more information about your programming experiences and aptitude

Please submit your application either on this job board, or to the VP of Programming at vp-programming@teachpsych.org by April 18, 2025. Questions about the application or about the position can also be directed to the addresses above.
