Job Description
The Psychology Program at Southwest Minnesota State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Position responsibilities include teaching a 24-credit course load per year (12 credits each semester), covering foundational areas of psychology related to developmental psychology, along with required major courses and electives. The person in this position must have the necessary credentials to teach General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, and other courses in related areas. Position responsibilities may also include taking a role in helping to develop a new online master's degree in counseling or clinical mental health. Duties also include student advising, contributing to student growth and development, committee assignments, engaging in ongoing professional development, service to the University and community, and engagement with the broader Minnesota State College and University System. The SMSU Psychology Program is small and collegial, with faculty invested in teaching, advising, and mentoring students in both our on-campus and online majors.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in Psychology.
Doctorate specialization in the area of Developmental Psychology.
Strong commitment to teaching is essential, including teaching experience with undergraduate students.
Ability to supervise undergraduate research projects.
Strong academic record.
Very strong interpersonal/administrative/mentoring skills.
Understanding of and appreciation for liberal arts. The University is committed to fostering a global perspective.
Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online instruction.
Background educational and/or practical experience in applied areas such as counseling, clinical mental health, and/or school psychology.
Ability to help manage collaborative efforts toward helping to develop an online master's degree in counseling psychology or clinical mental health.
